WHEN : Tuesday, November 22nd @ 5 pm
WHERE : Council Chambers, City Hall, 80 Broad Street
Please come speak out for the Angel Oak at this City Council meeting!
Charleston City Council member Kathleen Wilson has placed a discussion of the Angel Oak Planned Unit Development (PUD) on council’s November 22nd agenda.
This is a perfect opportunity for the public to request that City Council review changes to the PUD and determine whether this development is still appropriately designed and planned for an area of Johns Island immediately adjacent to the impaired Church Creek, the Urban Growth Boundary, and of course, the famed Angel Oak tree.
For the love of God and all he’s created. For the love of the human race and all it appreciates, please dont force the life out of this beautiful piece of reality. Just looking at a photo of this tree can change a human spirit, I’m sure of that. It cannot have any disturbances, it is old and it surpasses all we know about life expectancy. I’ve seen much younger oaks surrender to bugs alone. This tree has purpose and meaning just like a human being. Please leave it as it has been created. Not one human in this world can surpass its strength and if we let it, it may be here till the end of time.
I would hate to know this tree would no longer be in Charleston when I came to visit. I always took my children to see this tree. Everytime I come to Charleston with friends who have never been there I take them to see this tree. To me this wonderful tree is important as downtown Charleston or Folly Beach Or Sullivans Island, It is a wonderful reminder of days long ago. When my Dad used to bring me and my brother to Charleston something that sadly can never happen again. So please do everything possible to save this tree. Because my children are now 34 and 29 and I would love to bring my grandson who is 16 months to see this tree and have a picnic in the woods with him and this tree.
This massive Angel Oak tree HAS touched and IS touching so many people’s lives. My wish/prayer/intention is that some day all human beings will awaken to the reality that all beings, human and non human were created by GOD. And that we are all connected. This beautiful tree is our brother/sister. I’m all for building roads, homes, apartment complexes, new businesses. BUT PLEASE consider nature when planning these new constructions. This tree filters air for us humans to breath. Provides shade for us to enjoy. This is also a home for birds, squirrels and other living beings. I’ve been spread the news about the Angel Oak here in Louisiana. My prayers and other nature lovers from Louisiana are with all of you.
PEACE
